Nice SLR
Date of Review: Jan 9, 2008
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend. This camera is great for a beginner that is just learning, a hobbyist or a professional.
This is my first digital SLR and I chose Sony's Alpha, because I felt that it would have the knowledge of Minoltas many years making cameras (since Sony bought Minolta) and the great knowledge of Sony's many years leading the technology industry.
I bought mine directly from Sony and bought it with the 18-200 lens, only sold together through their site.
I planned on buying the A100, but when I finally decided to buy I saw they came out with the A700. I did research to see if this would be a better choice, eventhough I didn't want to spend that much money.
But, after reading about it and reviewing Popular Photography's lab test and learning that the problems mentioned in the A100 test (like the high noise at high iso) were fixed in the A700, I decided the A700 would be the best choice for me.
This camera has most of the features you need right at the touch of a button on the body of the camera. You don't need to go searching through menu just to change the most often used features.
The camera body is a nice durable alloy.
The LCD screen is a big, clear and bright 3 inches.
It comes with a little remote to snap pictures wirelessly or to control your camera while viewing pictures on your TV.
It comes with cables to hook up to a TV. It comes with an HDMI port to hook it up to the new HiDef TV's, but it does not come with the cables for that type of TV.
I can't review the software, because I really haven't used it much to figure out all it can do.
