The DW-U14A is basically an updated version of the DW-U10A both burn -R -RW CD's, -R -RW DVD's, and +R +RW DVD's.

Since I was interested in upgrading my IBM black drives (which were rather pricey) to faster read and burn speeds and I also wanted them to conform in brand, I looked to Sony as IBM uses various manufacturers for their drives. The IBM components are good but so are Sony's and the Sony's are more reasonable. A nice surprise when I installed the new drives was that they are quieter, and no surprise, they perform beautifully! They have burned my media flawlessly and quickly for the last 6 months creating no unwanted coasters for me to dispose of.
I am more pleased with these drives than any others I have used to date and fully expect to remain so for some time.
