Sony Dream machine
Date of Review: Aug 8, 2008
The Bottom Line: Very good concept. If plug did not break it Would could be used in an office cubical, but never for a bedroom.
I have had very good luck in the past with Sony. This is an extra player for our bed, (not our daily alarm clock). Just wanted it for late night listening that would not interrupt our alarm clock, or my husband sleeping (I use ear phone).I liked the body. funky style. It seemed quite compact.
Right from the start I had issues. It was VERY hard to understand; had to use the manual just to understand the basics (and I still don't understand all the modes). The volume control is on the side way in the back, so if you change stations, often you have to adjust the volume and this is a pain when you are in bed, in the dark.
There is no back up battery, so every time you unplug it or there is a power outage, you have to reprogram the time and the radio stations
The light shines like a beacon in the room. I had to tape card board over the back to block out the light, plus I placed two greeting cards over the top, just to block out some of the light. Obviously, no one tested this in a dark room!
So, after adjusting to all that, after only 1 1/2 hears the big heavy plug broke, and now it doesn't work. Have not figured out why, just has the copper wires showing where the wire goes into the plug. First time I have had a bad experience with Sony products. Very disappointed as it was hardly used and still pretty new.
