Truly the best
Date of Review: Jul 17, 2000
As an old hand at golf games, I'd have to say that Tiger '99 is my favorite. I originally bought Tiger for my Playstation after testing it against several other golf games. None of them came close. Then I got it for PC and realized what I'd been missing. The graphics are amazing, the shot control is unparalleled, the course selection is wonderful. Personally, I love to place in heavy fog with strong winds from the back tees.
The other thing I truly enjoy is the online play option. I can either go head to head over a modem, hit the internet and join a group or put it on a network and play in a group. That allows me to keep the game interesting even when I've played for days on end.
The last thing is the courses. They've added on courses to make it 15 (not counting the Buick courses that just hit stores). Each course is amazingly detailed and accurate. And they didn't just pick the ones that made it easy to overpower the course with 300+ yard drives. That would have killed the game. You still need some skill.
Now, something I don't like is the sometimes arbitrariness of the controls. Do the exact same thing and one time it hangs and stops and the next it flies through the power meter. Apparently, there's a patch for this though.
The other thing I didn't like is the fact that the funkified sound track goes away after you start installing extra courses. I've written EA about this repeatedly to no avail.
