killing terrorists with your machine gun for fun and profit.

The Bottom Line: I keep coming back to this game! I got this game about 2 years ago, and after every few months I find myself on multiplayer again and again.
Nonstop entertainment, I find myself constantly returning to this game to fullfill my homicidal urges. This game pits you as an anti terrorist unit that goes in scenario to scenario to take out terrorists in remote locations throughout the world.
Killing commie terrorists is risky business. They hide, they shoot civilians, they take over airplanes. Terrorists are a real thorn in the side. I am almost glad to start the game and find out that terrorists have once again taken over a chemical factory in the third world, so that I can go take care of business and show them how much I think about them.
In the one player game you can control the whole team one person at a time, so if you die it isn't the end of the world- you could just take over another character and keep trying. You can change your view from the classic "through the eyes" perspective to a more cool looking (but harder to control) view where you are kinda following behind him. I always play that one and pretend it is an episode of COPS. It's funner that way.
You can edit the mission plan. If you always get shot climbing through the window, make the plan so that your expendable useless team crawls through the window- or better yet, don't go through that window at all. So much control and so cool of an interface. It is magical.
But multiplayer is the way to go. I tend to dislike player vs player, as the game sometimes takes longer to load than to actually play. People that cheat make it less fun, too. There are mods for the game that are just plain wrong, also. Like laserguns and high power explosive weapons that are entirely not realistic. If you are playing with people like that you will have a bad time.
There is an option where multiple players execute the missions, each player taking over some of the members on a team. This , I found, is the best way to play. The AI in your team makes them a bunch of bungling idiots, your hand grenade frequently kills people in your own team that want a front row seat for the explosion, you accidentally shoot them because they follow immediately behind you all the time, etc. This makes for a bad terrorist blasting experience. With multiple players the teams can get cut down to 2 or 3 people that do smart things (well, usually) and the missions run much more fluidly. This is the mode that I find myself returning to every few weeks. It's fun.
They have made an update since then but I have yet to buy it. I plan on it one day- but I plan on doing a lot of things. If you get this game alone it will last you for quite a while. And now it has been out long enough that it is sure to be nice and cheap, too. Making it yet a better buy than it used to be.
First person shooters have remained a strong force in the computer gaming scene. Once you think they have been phased out a game comes out like soldier of fortune or something like that and becomes a top seller. People like first person shooters, if you haven't played one you should try one. You may be glad you did.
If you do get this game you have to play it online. It is amazing. Nerves of steel fry like eggs under the pressure this game will put on you. And with all this pressure and high tension power playing somehow it releives stress. It is a miracle. Give this game a serious looking-at because it is a powerhouse.
