Tresor
SUE'S PRE-RAMBLE
I know I m a little late, but to honor France s Bastille Day, I lift a glass of champagne, put on my beret, and salute the Tricolor.
I think I must have lived in Paris in some past life because it resonates very deeply with my soul. It started in first grade when Diana Curtis s mother became our room mother. She was from France and had a delicate accent to her beautiful voice. She was the loveliest woman I had ever met. I was a country bumpkin and she had an air of sophistication that always caught me off guard. My mother explained to me later in hushed tones that she was a war bride, as if this was somehow sad or bad. No matter; I loved her and her soft pillowy (not fat, just not an angular stick) look to her figure and her face that was always perfectly powdered.
As part of my tribute, I thought I d review a couple of my favorite French loves the music of Edith Piaf, the film Chocolat, and my favorite eau de parfum from Lancome Paris Tresor.
PURCHASE/PRICE
I do most of my shopping online and as much as possible use the www.MyPoints.com website to earn rewards, I was pleasantly surprised to note one day that Lancome is part of the MyPoints program. My skin is quite dry and sensitive, so I was actually shopping for body lotion at the time. I noticed the fragrances listed with a special offer for Tresor because of its 15th anniversary. In a moment of sentimentality, I went to take a closer look. My mother-in-Law used to wear Tresor and we even sptitzed a little on her clothes when we sent them to the funeral home (sorry, hope that s not too morbid). As I said, I got sentimental and ordered the 1.7 oz. bottle of the Eau de Parfum for $59.50. It s a bit expensive, but I got nearly enough reward points with the purchase for a $25 Barnes and Noble card from MyPoints.
CONTAINER
The glass Tresor bottle is in the shape of an inverted pyramid (with a flattened off bottom so it will sit level) reminiscent of the crystal pyramid in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris. It has a short pump nozzle that lets out just the smallest spritz with each press. It is topped with a pop-on clear acrylic lid that resembles a cut crystal. My bottle was a special anniversary edition, so it included a black acrylic ring embedded with Swarovsky crystals sitting around the neck of the bottle. They advertised it as being wearable, but, I m not sure by whom. My ring finger on my right hand is about a 5 ? or 6 and it was too small for me. I think I ll leave the ring on the bottle. The Eau de Parfum fairly glows golden in this light catching bottle.
FRAGRANCE
The Lancome site called it A rare, modern "floriental" that combines the elegance of Rose, Muguet and Lilac with the sparkle of Apricot Blossom, Heliotrope and Iris to stir deep emotions. They said to Wear it and feel utterly feminine I have loved it for years on my Mother-in-Law, without quite knowing what it was that I liked. When I read Muguet, I didn t know what that was so translated it from French to English using www.Babelfish.com. It is Lily of the Valley. Now I knew why I liked it! My dad gave me few enough gifts during my childhood that I remember every one of them and one was a bottle of Lily of the Valley toilet water. I ve always loved that scent. When I wear Tresor, I think of brioche with creamy butter and tangy orange marmalade.
In addition to the Eau de Parfum, Lancome sells a variety of other products in the Tresor line. They include: Perfumed Body Powder, Foaming Bath Gel, Perfumed Body Lotion, Perfumed Bath & Shower Gel, Perfumed Body Creme, and Eau de Toilette. Since most of my skin is fairly sensitive, I try not to use many perfumed items, but these look interesting.
WHAT I LIKE
I like the floral, spicy scent, the lack of woodsy or musky tones and the golden color. It lasts all day and has a nice warm, rich scent after the initial top notes burn off. Whenever I put it on, the cat s nose goes nuts twitching and quivering like crazy. She comes over to see what is going on. When I wear it, I feel sophisticated and beautiful like Leslie Caron or Juliette Binoche wearing high heels and rich red lipstick.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE
I hate spending that much, but it does seem to be lasting fabulously, so no huge complaint.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
A beautiful fragrance in a lovely bottle that I love to wear. I ve gotten my money s worth from the pleasure it brings me.
