Pros:
in the less-than $1000 price range- perhaps the BEST RECEIVER!
Cons:
Remote not the greatest in design (upgraded on newer 2500 receiver)
The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend the RX-V2400 by Yamaha. It is by far an outstanding piece of equipment. Not only does it perform, but it is built solid.

In October 04 we decided to replace our failing Sony receiver. After research and price shopping i had changed from going with another Sony and narrowed my choices down to 3 brands. The Yamaha RX-2400, the Denon and Pioneer models in the comparable class/price range.
We finally decided that for our home the Yamaha RX-V2400 seemed best for us. We are very glad we did.
I can't say enough about how nice it is to turn on the Yamaha and listen to very good clean music. As for home theater- WOW! This receiver delivers intense realism. We are running 5.1 although the receiver is 7.1 capable. The sounds from the rear speakers on various Sci Fi movies is the best I have ever experienced.
If I had any complaints, it is the remote- which has been upgraded on the newer RX-V2500 the (04-05) installment by Yamaha. The remote doesn't have lighted buttons and who wants to turn the lights on during a great flick just to press a few buttons. Other than that, the remote is very powerful and capable. It can run our TV, Satellite, VCR, and DVD player.
