Single mode cable contains a very small, single strand of glass fiber. These cables can carry higher bandwidths and enable up to 50 times more distance than multimode fibers, but will generally have higher costs. Multimode fiber optics also enables very high speeds over long distances. However, because of their larger cores, there may be some signal distortion.
