There are two main ways paper can be shredded which are referred to as a strip-cut or cross-cut. A strip-cut also known as a straight-cut shreds the paper into long, thin strips. Cross-cut shredders cut the paper vertically and horizontally onto tiny, confetti-like pieces. For extra security, cross-cut shredders are preferred.
