This is a brass fire starter which would hang on a nail near the fireplace. Now it could become part of your primitive decor. The hinged lid still moves fine. It was a utilitarian item and the inside shows that it was used as intended. It has great patina and is stamped with the makers mark "Mayflower" on top and bottom. It measures 6.5" tall.
