This oval con is desticated to one of England most famous seamen. On 26th September 1580, Francis Drake returned to Plymouth Harbour with a ship laden with treasure and spices. He was the first captain to sail his own ship around the world and the first Englishman to cross the Pacific, Indian and the South Atlantic Oceans. The Spanish protested that he had plundered their ships and ports, but Drake's piratical conduct was rewarded by Queen Elizabeth I. She came aboard the 'Golden Hind' and knighted her faithful captain. Drake made many more voyages and helped to defeat the Spanish Armada.
