Pressed steel, or 'tin' trunks such as these were popular from the late 19th century right up to the 1950's. They were favoured by boarding school pupils as once in the dorm they made, not only for secure storage, but also a handy seat. This example has a scumble painted finish reminiscent of a swirling wood grain and probably dates to the early years of the 20th century. Its in very good order with just enough wear and tear to give it character and has an intact brass hasp type lock, its missing a key but they are run of the mill cabinet type that any decent locksmith could provide. 61cm wide x 42cm deep x 38cm high and weighs 8.5kg.
