A rare example of a very early Ercol Windsor 'Easy Tub Chair', model number 176. This model was the first upholstered chair produced by Ercol. Designed to comply with the government's Utility requirements after WW2, the chair made its debut at the Furniture Exhibition, February 1951 and was displayed at the Festival Of Britain three months later. The coil spring base predates the standard pirelli webbing, the design was a blueprint for future Ercol armchair designs. The chair is in great condition for its age. It has been stripped back from a dark finish, to the natural wood, and finished with wax. There is evidence of a small split to the hooped back, but it has been repaired and is no longer an issue.
