Judea, Second Temple Period (520 BC - 70 AD). Most of the "Dead Sea Scrolls" were preserved inside ceramic jars. They are tall cylindrical containers, with a lid in the shape of a plate or cup. At Qumran, between forty and fifty jars were found containing one or more scrolls inside.
