Antique Milners Patent Fire-Resisting Special Safe With Keys. Please study the photographs as they form part of the description. Milners safes are famous for their "212 Patent". The name refers to the fire-resistant mixture (sand, sawdust, and alum crystals) used in the walls. In a fire, these ingredients react to release moisture, ensuring the interior temperature does not exceed 212°F (the boiling point of water), which protects paper documents from charring. Founded by Thomas Milner in 1814, the company moved to Liverpool in 1830 and by 1900 claimed to be the largest safe manufacturer in the world. Their safes were so trusted that five were installed on the Titanic in 1911. Collection only. Why not browse our other listings we're happy to consider reasonable offers.
