This is a replacement for the type that mounts ontop of the dynamo If your dyanmo is putting out voltage but the battery is not charging or is overcharging its most likely the regulator is at fault. This new unit is a more modern solid state electronics equivalent of the original type and works with all 6 volt dynamos but looks like the original unit, The top is actually removable so you can install your original Bosch lid to keep things looking period correct.
