The thick end is looped through the lanyard and the flat end is looped through the whistle. They are designed to be worn under the shoulder epaulette and the other end to go into the tunic pocket. Used by British, Imperial and Commonwealth Armies including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Pakistan etc. and the United States (USA).
