The herb acts as a synergist when used with licorice (Glycyrrhiza spp). This peony has a very deep purplish, almost black flower. See my other peonies listed. Unlike regular peonies that die back to the ground in the winter, tree peonies produce a woody stem that last all winter and gets bigger as years pass.
