1895-1905 door bell cover surround is an exceptional rare find, salvaged from a house in London, the piece shows it’s age beautifully, at nearly 18” tall and weighing 1750 grams it’s door furniture at its best. Research from Charles brooking museum have said. would obviously have to be protected from the weather, perhaps under a porch or door canopy, and may have originated from a smart turn-of-the-century Mayfair apartment. The date, I would assume, would be around 1895-1905, but never having encountered one, this is difficult. Is it English, as it certainly appears to have a strong continental feel - perhaps French gilt ormolu?
