AFTER WILLIAM HEATH ANTIQUE CARICATURE THE MAN WOT DRIVES THE OPPOSITION 1829

Extremely interesting Sharpshooter pirated version of William Heath’s caricature The Man Wot Drives the Opposition published in 1829 by S. Gans from Southampton St, The Strand London. Sharpshooter was the pseudonym for John Phillips a caricaturist who made a living, together with publisher S. Gans, from pirating the works of better known artists, in this case William Heath. This antique caricature was published within days and in the same month as the Heath edition (April 1829). A rare example. Condition is very good. This is an original work and NOT a modern copy. Paper size 53x 32cm. Sold unmounted and unframed.
