Antique John Roby Ltd Maritime Salvage Porthole Ships Window Circa 1880

We are delighted to offer for sale this rare and highly collectable, totally original John Roby LTD Rainhill stamped ships porthole window with the original glass. In the late 1850's, John Roby, a brass founder and copper smith, set up a brass foundry on the west side of Mellings foundry in Rainhill, to make brass fittings for ships. By 1861 he was employing twelve men and five boys and had already built Roby's Cottages alongside his works to house his workmen - probably the first industrial housing in Rainhill. This window would have been made in around 1880, give or take a few years. It measures 37cm in diameter, and weighs 15kg.
