Alvar Aalto designed the chair in 1929 and they were manufactured by O Y Huonekalu-JA in Turku Finland. They were stained again, sealed and then finish added. When the chairs left the factory they were either Black or natural wood, the black ones were stained black and had coats of Ebonized Shellac added.
