A very nice example of a British Naval "Red Ensign" or Red Duster as its occasionally known. The Red ensign flag first appeared in the early 17th century, later to be adopted specifically by British merchant ships. The Red "Fly side" is symbolic of courage and valour, The Union Jack represents England, Scotland and Wales. The White stripe "Hoist side" represents purity and peace. 4 Feet x 7 Feet, Panel sewn, Nice period piece. There are age related marks and wear to the flag and has some holes as well as shown in pictures.
