From 1980, we can see releases of the gold £2 coin/Double Sovereign on a regular basis. We receive many calls each year from people who have one of these coins believing them to be gold. Although there is a gold version of the 1986 £2 coin, if you find one in your change, it probably isn't gold, in our experience.
