Antique 19thC French Gilt Metal Needle Case - Paris Exposition Universelle 1867 A very rare piece- quite probably a souvenir piece from the late exposition in Paris 1867 - one of the great 19th century exhibitions, showcasing the latest in what the rapidly changing world had to offer, similar to the 1851 great exhibition at the Crystal Palace in London. A very fine thing, as pictured the upper sleeve slides to reveal a gilded metal rod, can be slid pack up to close however needs a few good twists to do so - unsure how this functions properly as a needle holder however clearly states it’s use as one on the case! I can only find one record of this at auction ok recent years - lovely bit of history!
