Gnat bugs belong to the Family Enicocephalidae and would have killed and fed off of other insects and have bulging eyes and a characteristic, piercing proboscis used to kill prey. Considering that only around 1 in 100 pieces of Dominican amber mined contains a fossil inclusion, this piece is exceptional.
