The impregnation of wood by a hard natural oil is an easy to implement method. The oil molecules penetrate slightly into the wood and saturate the pores. The wood is thus made water repellent while remaining permeable with water vapor. On the other hand, to resist soiling, these surfaces must be subject to additional treatment to wax, to renew twice a year. Balsamic waxes are used with beeswax and vegetable wax.
