The name comes from the mineral jasper, which the pottery resembles in hardness. Jasperware has a matte, unglazed finish and is made from fine-grained stoneware with classical motifs. It's produced in a variety of colours, including pale blue, lilac, sage green, black, and yellow, but sometimes one piece may combine multiple colours.
