Graflex Fingerprint Camera, manufactured by Graflex Inc. in Rochester 8, New York, U.S.A. This specialized camera was produced from 1918 to 1951 and was designed for capturing 1:1 images of fingerprints and other forensic evidence. It uses 2¼x3¼ film or plates. The camera features a folding metal viewing hood for composition and, unusually, its own light source. The model in the image is an early example, featuring a wooden body covered in black leather, with a rectangular box construction and a short, tapering front section. The Wilmette Police Department used this type of camera from approximately 1921 to at least 1937. This is a great camera to display in your collection
