I bought a second battery to be on the safe side but in truth I have only needed to use the back-up when I have gone out on an 8-hour outing. The XM30S is a nice small unit which is unobtrusive and easily fits well inside an inner or outer chest pocket for quick access and stays secure if you need to crawl.
