Rolex Space-Dweller Watch 1016

The Rolex Space-Dweller is not just an ultra-rare timepiece but a fascinating and controversial piece of history. These Space-Dweller dials were most likely prototypes made by one of Rolex's dial suppliers, Jean Singer & Cie, in the 1960s. One way or another, by the late 1990s they had ended up in the hands of watch dealers like Eric Tortella. When Tortella was convicted of financial crimes in the early 2000s, the Swiss government seized and auctioned his assets--including four loose Space-Dweller dials. We believe this Space-Dweller contains one of the four Tortella dials, since installed in a beautiful correct Explorer 1016 case with a lovely Oyster rivet bracelet.
