I have used it with a desktop as well as my Levono Laptop via USB cable. It is very portable and you can view all your files on your laptop or computer using the firewire to usb cable (included). I have also included a compatible 12V power cable - could not find the original one but this one works fine and has been tested with the drive and the USB cable to delete the drive, format the drive, and then add new content to the drive.
