It opens and closes, with gentle manipulation. Solving it, is not difficult, but is a fun process. This should be hidden, inside another container, such as one of my PVC Cache. This Snowman Puzzle Gift Box, has a challenging maze to be solved (much more challenging than my other Puzzle Tube!).
