David Dipnall (1941-2023) was born in Jedburgh, Scotland during the early war years to English parents. He received his education at Portsmouth Grammar School on the South Coast of England. Initially, he went into Engineering Design but gave this up in 1968 when he and his wife, Audrey, decided to travel the world in a Land Rover before settling in Australia for five years.
