Pacific - West Coast North America - East Asian - Vaugondy 1779 - Japan - Rare

Remarks: An unusual and very interesting double card based on the works of Kaempfer and Buache. It shows two projections of the northwest coast of America and the northeast coast of Asia from the middle of the 18th Century before Cook's first trip. BUACHES card is largely based on Russian sources that come from de l'Isle in Russia. Kaempfer's information comes from his time in Asia. Many interesting and opposite cartographic myths are treated, including the West Sea, the Northwest Passage, various waterways through North America as well as unusual projections of Japan and the northeast coast of Asia. --- Out of: Supplement to Diderot's Encyclopédie, OU Dictionnaire Raisonné des Sciences, the Arts et des Métier. Or Vaugondy's Recueil de 10 Cartes Tratant Particulierement de l'Arenique du No.
