Map of Germany - Visscher 1652 - Rare, very elaborate Germany map

Remarks: The rare and particularly decorative map shows Germany surrounded by four borders. These include ten oval city views according to Braun & Hogenberg (Prague, Cologne, Speyer, Heidelberg, Strasbourg, Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Trier, Mainz and Leipzig) as well as eight figurative representations of the emperor and the seven electors with their coats of arms. A coat of arms cartouche, a compass rose and a sailing ship decoration on the North and Baltic Seas complement the map area, which extends from Flensburg in the north to Warsaw in the east and Venice in the south to Dunkirk in the west. The map was first published in 1621 with a slightly different representation. The map presented here belongs to the much rarer series published from 1647 with the border engraved by Pieter Hendricksz.
