The base plate is made from 12mm clear polycarbonate, so it won't crack, shatter or bow under load and has an M10 bar threaded and glued into it. The size advertised is 1200mm for the bottom rails and 1200mm for the top rails this gives an approximate workable cut of 950mm x 950mm.
