In an established healthy aquarium there should always be a good selection of shells in the aquarium that are bigger than the occupied hermit crab shells. Hermit Crabs regularly outgrow their current shell and will need a good choice of available shells in order to grow and facilitate the crab as it sheds and requires a larger shell.
