This is a wonderful piece ,dated by the Spode Museum as being c1820s. In a blue border which is different from the other individual Plate I have for sale separately in my Shop. (no 3067) Copeland & Garrett Late Spode New Stone plate decorated with "Ship" pattern number 306 c.1828 This extremely strong, vitreous, pale ceramic body, whose appearance imitated Chinese porcelains, was introduced in 1815 and many of the designs on it were inspired by, or were outright copies of, Chinese originals. While the Chinese pieces were hand-painted, the Spode items were first printed in outline and then coloured in by hand, an obviously more efficient manufacturing process. An opaque variation, “New Stone China”, was introduced in 1820 On chip to edge . Plate Diameter 24 cm. (9 ½ “). . No cracks or crazing that I can see to the base.
