It was produced by OLYMPIA for the Army and Navy Co-Optive Society. The Society (hence the marking on the paper plate of the typewriter) was created in 1871 by a group of British army and navy officers in order to provide articles of domestic consumption and general use to its members at the lowest prices. In 1934, a year before the production of this typewriter, the official name of the company became the Army and Navy Store Ltd. The store continued to sell goods until the 20th century.
