Simply set the appliance to "OFF" to interrupt the current flow and thus dispose of the rat safely. Simply use a protein-containing bait (e.g. nut nougat cream), insert four type C batteries (not included), set the switch to "ON" and then place the trap along the walls where you suspect rat activity.
