Professor Heinrich Sussmann was born in Tarnopol, West Ukraine in 1904. He studied at the Grand Chaumiere Academy in Paris in 1926 and later at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. He moved to Berlin in 1929 but after the Nazis gained power he fled to Paris and in 1940 to Marseille.
