Carved in the traditional form with overlapping wings, a rounded head and gentle linear detailing, this piece represents the cicada — a long-standing Chinese symbol of rebirth, protection and longevity. Possibly Qing dynasty. The jade has a warm mottled brown/olive tone with natural veining and cloudy inclusions. It has a smooth, slightly glossy finish and a cool, dense feel typical of genuine jade. Condition: Good antique/vintage condition with light surface wear from age and handling. No chips or cracks visible. A lovely jade carving and an attractive addition to any collection of Chinese jade or symbolic carvings.
