It's been used to dig both foxholes and trenches - a 9" whetstone sharpening tool - a 8.5" full round abrasive steel shaft file or scratch awl often used to smooth and shape insides of holes - and 2 of my grampa's ice picks, the small 8" one from the 1920s and the longer 10" one from the 1930s.
