Everything works, the frequency display is as bright as it was back in 1982. It has good stability and exceptionally good audio - even on SSB it sounds great. I would go as far as to say out of all the R models - the 600, 1000, 2000 and 5000 the 1000 has the best AF - even more so if you hook up an extension speaker.
