As well as much greater storage capacity, the flash storage is much more power efficient. Compared to the 1st Gen Mini, the 2nd Gen is much more power efficient. Manufactured in2005 and originally with a 4GB hard drive, the storage has been upgraded with a64GB Compact Flash card.
