Sebastian was a captain of the Roman Praetorian Guard in the 3rd century. When his Christian faith was revealed, Sebastian was tied to a tree, shot full of arrows, and left for dead. He recovered and went directly to Emperor Diocletian, firmly rebuking his persecution of Christians.
