Chionochloa rubra is a New Zealand native also known as red tussock grass. It is a leafy evergreen grass-like perennial which brings a graceful spreading form of thin, coppery leaves to the landscape. It forms soft, open graceful mounds that move in the slightest breeze. Sow seed any time in a well lit area. Make sure that it is sown in a free draining compost. Once well rooted, it can be pricked out into a sandy loam soil. Best to grow these in the ground as soon as possible as they do not like being cultivated in pots.
