There are no chips, but minor scratches throughout the clock when you put batteries inside the clock it beeps but only says 12 o’clock and continues to blink. The numbers are also faded. There is a possibility I was not setting the clock up right. But there is definitely noticeable Fading to the numbers. Still can be used as a display
