Here is a painting of “The Tortoise Trainer” by Osman Hamdi Bey on two ceramic tiles. This vintage piece is signed by the artist in the lower left hand corner. Each tile measures 8 inches by 8 inches. Bright blues and reds in this historic reproduction! “The first version was created in 1906. Hamdi's painting of an anachronistic historical character attempting to train tortoises is usually interpreted as a satire on the slow and ineffective attempts at reforming the Ottoman Empire.” Great vintage condition. Several tiny flake-size areas of paint loss along edge (see photos).
